Dr De Bakshi trained at the Medical College Calcutta, completing his MBBS and MS in General surgery from this institute. He subsequently went to the UK where he completed his FRCS(England). He worked at the King George Hospital, the Barking Hospital, with the Hepato-Biliary Unit at The Royal Postgraduate Institute at the Hammersmith Hospital, UK,the Royal Marsden Cancer Hospital, Fulham UK and with the Liver Transplant Unit at Addenbrooke's, Cambridge UK.

He subsequently came back to Kolakta and started working at the Cancer Centre and Welfare Home, Thakurpukur and the Aurobindo Seva Kendra. He was one of the team, instrumental in setting up the Gastroenterological Surgical Unit of Oncology at the Cancer Centre and Welfare Home, Thakurpukur. He is presently attached to the Calcutta Medical Research Institute (C.M.R.I.), Kolakta as a Consultant Surgeon to the Unit of Surgical Gastroenterology.
